The Graduate Institute Geneva invites teams of 3-5 enrolled Masters Students from anywhere in the world to participate in the Geneva Challenge 2016 Advancing Development Goals Contest, The Challenges of Urbanization. Three finalist teams will be invited (traveling and accommodation expenses covered) to an oral presentation in Geneva.

The Geneva invites teams of students to:

  • identify a challenge stemming from urbanization
  • construct an interdisciplinary analysis on how it affects different aspects of development in a specific (but transposable) context
  • Propose innovation at the policy, practice, processor technology levels turning the challenge into development opportunity

The ADG contest 2016 will distribute 17,500 CHF in monetary prizes.

  • Mid-February 2016- Announcement of the Jury Panel and the Keynote Speaker
  • 25 May 2016- Registration deadline
  • 31 July 2016- Submission deadline
  • September 2016- Semi-finalists announced
  • Late September 2016- Jury Evaluation meeting
  • Early October 2016 -Finalists announced
  • Late November 2016- Presentations of the Finalists and Award Ceremony

Eligibility Criteria

  • Participants of the ADG contest 2016 must be enrolled graduate students at the time of their registration of the contest.
  • Graduate students to be anyone enrolled in post bachelor level university program with a maximum duration of 2 years, or anyone who can prove to be studying towards acquiring a masters level degree.
  • Participants must gather in teams of 3 to 5 graduate students, who are able to contribute from at least 2 different disciplinary perspectives to the submitted analysis.
  • Participants can be enrolled in a same graduate program, collaborate with students from other programs from the university they are enrolled in or coordinate with students from different universities and institutions worldwide.
