The CHALLENGESLAVERY Tech Contest from the USAID seeks to creative technology solutions to prevent human trafficking, rescue victims, and provide assistance to survivors. Traffickers use technology, such as cell phones and social networking sites, to ensnare their victims. Now the Challenge wants you to help use technology for positive purposes to combat trafficking in developing countries.
One 1st place prize of $5,000 will be given to the top entry and one or more runner-up prizes will be awarded in the amount of $2,500.
In addition, winners will be invited to showcase and discuss their winning ideas with USAID personnel and their implementing and donor partners.
All submissions must include the following:
- A 250 word summary of your idea in English;
- A 150 word statement on the potential impact of your idea;
- A 150 word statement about the feasibility of your solution; AND
- A three page concept note describing your idea OR a short video of no more than five minutes OR a website to illustrate your idea.
In order to participate in the contest, you need to join the Challenges slavery community. You can submit as an individual, with a partner, or as a team. If you do not have a team in place, you can create a team by connecting with members in the community
A panel of judges will select the winning entries as per the guidelines given below:
1. Impact – Judges will consider:
i. Whether the proposed idea will make a significant contribution in preventing human trafficking or assisting victims or survivors.
ii. Whether the results that the proposed technology is anticipated to produce are clearly articulated.
2. Feasibility – Judges will consider:
i. Whether the proposed technology is affordable, accessible, and appropriate for users in low-income settings.
ii. If the idea is replicable and scalable in different communities, countries, or settings.
3. Innovation – Judges will consider:
i. Whether the idea submitted is unique and creative.
