Royal Academy of Engineering invites entries for Global Grand Challenges short film competition 2013, to bring together leading international thinkers and innovators to explore new approaches to solving some of the most pressing challenges of the 21st century, on themes ranging from resilience to healthcare; from driving growth and employment to protecting our planet.
This competition is calling for creative entrants to produce a film no longer than two minutes, highlighting the importance of engineering, and how engineers can tackle global challenges in any one of the following areas underlined at the summit: Sustainability, Enriching Life, Growth, Resilience, Health.
The winner of the UK competition will receive a prize of £5,000 and will be presented with their prize at a special ceremony during the Global Grand Challenges Summit in London, UK.
Eligibility & Criteria-
- The age range for entrants is 18-27 years. Entrants must fall within this age range. The competition is open to any one that falls into this category.
- The competition is open to short films of all production techniques, including animation, documentary, drama, experimental or artist film and hybrid work.
- This competition is only open to residents of the United Kingdom.
Other Requirements-
- Entrants must create a short film/video based on the role of engineering in tackling a global challenge, highlighting any one of the following themes:Sustainability, Enriching Life, Growth, Resilience
- The duration of the film must not exceed two minutes (including titles and credits).
- All eligible entries will be uploaded and available to view on a dedicated YouTube channel.
- Non-English language films or any sections containing non-English dialogue must include English Subtitles.
- Films can be submitted in any of the following digital video formats (other formats will not be accepted)-
- .avi
- .mpeg4
- .mov
- .wmv
- Submitted film must be under 100 megabytes (MB) in file size (larger files will not be accepted).
- The film may not contain offensive, libelous, sexually explicit, disparaging or other inappropriate content.
- No film containing advertising material (e.g. to promote a product or service) will be accepted.
