More than 12.3 million people around the world are considered to be trapped in the modern-day slavery. Human traffickers go to any length and use force, fraud, or coercion to exploit individuals for profit through forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation. It’s a global problem that affects every region of the world.
To combat such egregious acts against the innocent, USAID, the Demi & Ashton Foundation and NetHope have announced a challenge competition for developers from Russia and the region to design innovative mobile applications to help Stop Human Trafficking.
The organizers are looking for mobile apps that will raise public awareness of trafficking, educate at-risk people, or provide services to victims and survivors. The top two winners will receive cash prizes and a trip to New York. The winning application will be implemented by an organization working to combat trafficking in Russia.
The NetHope Stop Human Trafficking App Challenge (the “Challenge”) is a skills based competition open to legal residents of, or entities organized under the laws of the Russian Federation or countries in Eastern Europe [Eastern Europe for the purpose of this contest is defined as: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine], (the “Approved Jurisdiction”), to bring together advertisers, brands, agencies, consultants, application developers and content/entertainment to raise awareness of human trafficking as an international problem.
Submitters will compete in this skills-based challenge to design and build innovative, creative, functional and original mobile applications in accordance with the stated guidelines. Submitters will submit a video entry detailing a mobile phone application or service in accordance with the Challenge rules below.
The Challenge has two main goals:
• To raise awareness of the issues of human trafficking, in particular with Russian people in Russia
