The FAO is calling nominations from national and regional institutions for Edouard Saouma Award. The Edouard Saouma award is for institutions which have implemented with particular efficiency a project funded by FAO’s Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP).
The award constitutes of an inscribed medal, a description of winner’s achievements, and a cash prize of $25,000 USD. The award ceremony will be held at FAO headquarters, Rome.
Established in 1993, this biennial award pays tribute to former FAO Director-General (1976-1993), Edouard Saouma for his conception and implementation of the Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP).
Eligibility Criteria
- The winning institution should be one that has excelled in their implementation of a TCP funded project and which has:
- allowed the rapid mobilization of resources or responded efficiently to emergency situations, and/or
- filled a critical gap and met successfully short-term technical assistance needs which could not be covered by other sources of support, and/or
- produced sustainable outcomes and outputs with particular catalytic effects such as increased mobilization of investment funds, large-scale follow-up action, policy and institutional changes, and/or
- contributed to the strengthening of the beneficiary country’s capacities to ensure that the critical gap and problem faced would either not appear again or could be resolved effectively at the national or regional level.
- Particular attention is given to the nature, the sustainability and the replicability of the achievements and the catalytic effects generated compared to the inputs provided by the Technical Cooperation Programme.
- FAO National, Regional and Sub-regional Representatives or UNDP Resident Representatives may also submit nominations.
How to Apply
Nominations can be presented by national or regional institutions to FAO Representatives or FAO Regional and Sub-regional Representatives, in countries with no accredited FAO Representative.
