Know anyone or any organisation around the world who has done outstanding work in solving water shortage and other water challenges? If yes then nominate him/her for the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2016. Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) is currently seeking nominations for the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2016. The Prize honours outstanding contributions by individuals or organisations towards solving the world’s water challenges by applying innovative technologies, policies or programmes which benefit humanity.
The event brings together businessmen, government officials, academics and others to discuss water issues around the world, and will be held from July 10 to 14 next year at the Marina Bay Sands’ Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore.
Prize & Benefits
The prize, started in 2008, comprises $300,000, a certificate and a gold medallion. It is awarded as part of the Singapore International Water Week held every two years in Singapore.

- Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2014 Laureate – Orange County Water District
- Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2012 Laureate – Prof Mark van Loosdrecht for his breakthrough contributions in used water treatment, with his completely autotrophic nitrogen removal process – Anammox
- Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2011 Laureate – Dr James Barnard for inventing a biological method to treat used water so that it can be returned safely to lakes and rivers.
- Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2010 – Yellow River Conservancy Commission for its outstanding accomplishments in integrated basin management that is unrivalled in scale. YRCC has secured water supply for over one hundred million people, restored extensive areas of wetlands and biodiversity, and protected some 90 million people living in the flood-prone areas.
Who can be nominated?
- Qualified parties, such as leaders of international water companies and water utilities, top academics in water research, policy and management, heads of international organisations, members of government, or distinguished individuals in the field of water are welcome to submit nominations for the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2016.
- The Nominator can nominate multiple Nominees and should seek consent from the Nominee(s) before submitting the online form.
How to Nominate?
- Before nominating, be ensure about the full information of the Nominee.
- A softcopy of the Nominee’s CV with photo (individual) or prospectus/write-up (organisation) must be uploaded online.
- Shortlisted nominees will be notified to submit supporting documents for more detailed evaluations by the Nominating Committee (NC).
