The Holberg Prize 2016 is currently open for Nominations! The Prize is awarded to scholars who have made outstanding contributions to research in the arts and humanities, social science, law or theology. The prize may be awarded both for work within a particular academic discipline and for work of a cross disciplinary nature. The prize winner must have had a decisive influence on international research. Scholars holding positions at universities and other research institutions, including academies, are entitled to nominate candidates to the Prize.
The Holberg Prize, awarded annually consists of 4,5 million NOK (approximately EUR 538 000 EUR / USD 585 000). The prize winner will be announced in March 2016, and the award ceremony will take place in Bergen, Norway in June 2016.

Eligibility Criteria
- Scholars below the age of seventy who have made outstanding contributions to research in the arts and humanities, social science, law or theology are eligible to be nominated for the prize.
- The prize may be awarded both for work within a particular academic discipline and for work of a cross disciplinary nature.
- The prize winner must have had a decisive influence on international research.
- Scholars holding positions at universities and other research institutions, including academies, are entitled to nominate candidates to the Prize.
How to Nominate
- Nominators must fill and submit the online Nomination form on the website.
- The letter of nomination should be written in English and state the reason for the nomination in 2 to 3 pages.
- The nomination should also include the candidate’s CV and suggest referees who know the scholar´s work.
