The Volvo Environment Prize Foundation is currently seeking nominations for the 2011 Volvo Environment Prize from universities, research institutes, scientists and engineers as well as other individuals and organizations. Laureates may come from all fields related to environmental and sustainability studies and initiatives.
The Volvo Environment Prize is preferably given to an individual or to a group of named individuals, rather than to institutions for “Outstanding innovations or scientific discoveries which in broad terms fall within the environmental field”.
Since its launch, the prize has been awarded to 38 individuals. The laureates include many well-know names, of which three are Nobel Prize Winners.
Nomination Guidelines
- The span of disciplines and activities for which nominations can be made is very wide. The work of nominees should be based on scientific grounds.
- Nominations must clearly describe and explain the nominee’s main achievements and their importance.
- Nominations should be submitted in English using the official form. A nomination remains valid for three years.
Note. Self-nominations are not accepted.
Selection process
A Scientific Committee reviews the nominations and presents a report to an international Prize Jury. The Jury recommends one or several winners to the Board of the Volvo Environment Prize Foundation, which then makes the formal decision.
What the Prize constitutes?
The Volvo Environment Prize consists of a diploma, a glass sculpture and a cash award for SEK 1.5 million (approximately EUR 170 000 or USD 230 000).
