The N-Peace Network (ENgage for Peace, Equality, Access, Community and Empowerment) has been active in four high-risk crisis countries that face chronic emergencies due to high-risk of conflict and susceptibility to natural disasters (Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Timor-Leste). The network supports the development of leadership skills and the capacity of women to prevent conflict, resolve disputes and work for reconstruction and peace building at the regional, national and community levels. It provides support to an array of organizations and women leaders, training opportunities and a forum to voice their ideas, experiences and contributions both in their own country and across the four countries.
The need for greater recognition of women as change agents in conflict prevention, recovery and peace building efforts has been identified by network members as a critical issue. To respond to this, we are pleased to launch the N-PEACE awards aimed at providing greater recognition to the efforts and leadership of women in peace building, especially at the grassroots level.
In this context, N-Peace network has announced the N-Peace Awards 2011 for women and invites nominations for the prize for women from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia or Timor Leste who are working on building peace, empowering communities and preventing violence and conflicts.
The N-Peace Awards will provide a simple way to identify, recognize and showcase the leadership roles that women play and the contributions that they make in peace building at the local level.
