The Center on Law and Environment (PDMA) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) are co-hosting a Research Awards event for Young Scholars, which will take place at the XIV World Water Congress, from 25-29 September, 2011 in Porto de Galinhas, Brazil.
PDMA and IDRC invite young researches to submit papers exploring the challenges of innovation in the field of impacts of climate change, in particular on the water sector, including water resources and water services and systems.
AWARDS
Each award is comprised of R$ 3.280,00 (aprox. USD 2.000,00) plus a fully funded trip to the IWRA Congress. For the winning young researchers, the Award comprises:
a) To present the project/innovation/initiative at the Congress, possibly through presentation in a poster session, in a venue yet to be defined;
b) To participate in the Awarding Ceremony to be held during the Congress;
c) To provide IDRC’s Climate Change and Water programming with project documentation and additional graphics (i.e. pictures; audio-visuals or others) related to the project to be disseminated through their channels (IDRC website, youtube, etc).
SUBJECT MATTER
Papers should demonstrate original thought on one of the suggest themes, which are:
i. Adaptive water management;
ii. Water resources and global change;
iii. Governance and water law; and
iv. Knowledge systems.
ELIGIBILITY
Students formally enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate program (masters or doctoral programs) from Universities in the Latin American and Caribbean region will be eligible to participate in the Research Award for Young Scholars. Selected candidates are required to take care in their own of visa requirements to enter Brazil and be able to demonstrate that are formally enrolled in a university program in order to be eligible for receiving the award.
