Youth Service America Invites Nominations of Youth Leaders and Young Educators for Harris Wofford Service.
Youth Service America is accepting nominations of outstanding youth leaders and young educators for the 2012 Harris Wofford Awards.The Harris Wofford Young Educator Award will recognize an extraordinary young teacher for his or her achievements and contributions toward enhancing the practice of high-quality service-learning. This award is the highest honor Youth Service America gives each year and it carries significant prestige since it recognizes one of our nation’s greatest public servants. The Harris Wofford Award was created to honor those who do extraordinary work towards achieving Senator Wofford’s vision of “making service and service-learning the common expectation and common experience of every young person in America.” The Wofford Awards recognize extraordinary achievements in five categories: Youth, Organizations, Media, Public Officials.
Eligibility-
The Harris Wofford Youth Award will be given to a young person (between the ages of 5 and 25) who is a legal resident of the United States and who demonstrates exemplary commitment to involving his or her peers in service, youth voice, service-learning, or civic engagement activities. While youth nominees should be personally active in volunteering, emphasis should be on their efforts and success in helping to mobilize and inspire the youth of their generation. The nominee’s activities can be focused on the local, state, national, or international level. The award recipient will receive $500 for him/herself and $500 to give to a nonprofit of his or her choice to support program activities.
