Submissions are invited for an essay competition on the subject “Performance of the Turkish Economy during Global Crises.” The Turkish economy has been remarkably flexible in the latest global crisis. However, contemporary national economies are increasingly integrated into a global system by means of different financial and trade links due to which economic crises can no longer be restricted to a particular country or region.
The essays submitted to the competition should fulfill the highest academic standards and address the place, strengths and weaknesses of the Turkish economy in the new global system, its power and mechanisms to cope with past and future global crises preferably in a comparative perspective.
The authors are free to address ramifications of these issues at the level of domestic sectors or the macroeconomic scale to evaluate past policies and structural reforms or recommend new ones for sustainability of economic growth, development and performance of domestic financial markets or to discuss the vulnerability of the Turkish real sectors to powerful global shocks.
The Sakıp Sabancı International Research Award includes $20,000 for the first prize, $10,000 for the second, and $5,000 for the third. An independent as well as international jury will select the prize winners.
