Kochon Foundation, a non-profit foundation registered in the Republic of Korea is seeking nominations for The Stop TB Partnership-Kochon Prize aimed at supporting the global fight against tuberculosis. The Stop TB Partnership-Kochon Prize is awarded once a year to persons, institutions, or organizations that have made a highly significant contribution to combating tuberculosis.
The Prize was established in 2006 in honour of late Chong-Kun Lee, founder of the Kochon Foundation and Chairman of Chong Kun Dang Pharmaceutical Corp.
The prize consists of a medal and US$ 65 000. The cost of awardees’ participation in the Award Ceremony also is covered.
The Stop TB Partnership was established in 2001 building upon the Stop TB Initiative that was launched by WHO in 1998 and following a call at the Amsterdam Ministerial Conference in 2000. Its aim is to realize the goal of eliminating TB as a public health problem and, ultimately, to obtain a world free of TB. It comprises a network of international organizations, countries, donors from the public and private sectors, governmental and nongovernmental organizations that have expressed an interest in working together to achieve this goal
Who can nominate
A recognized national health body of any WHO Member State, any Stop TB partner or any former recipient of the Prize.
Who can be nominated
A person or persons, an institution or institutions, or organization or organizations that have made a major contribution to stopping tuberculosis. Nominees should have significant and documented achievements in the formulation and implementation of a system or policy for anti-tuberculosis programmes; or fields of TB research, advocacy, education or training for the prevention of tuberculosis.
There is no restriction on the age, sex or nationality of proposed candidates.
Current WHO staff members and members of the Stop TB Partnership Coordinating Board for the last two years are not eligible to receive the prize. Candidates may not nominate themselves.
Selection Criteria
In judging nominations, the Selection Committee will consider primarily
– The exceptional commitment to the global fight against TB
– The extent of the originality and potential impact of their work on TB control and TB-affected communities
– The extent to which a Stop TB Partnership/Kochon Foundation Award might contribute to furthering the nominee’s work in the fight against TB.
