Papers pertaining to continuities and ruptures along routes and borders in Asia, under the theme, “Connections, Corridors, and Communities,” are invited. With reference to the Asian Borderlands, connections, corridors and communities are described as follows:
Connections: How does the study of cross-border connections make the Asian borderlands more/less visible? In spite of historical and political splits, how do the borderlands remain resilient? What are the main features of various kinds of connections that are being created (as well as cut off) in Asian borderlands?
Corridors: Are the Asian borderlands being forged, reopened, diverted, or closed, and what are the effects of such processes? What is the true meaning of ‘corridors,’ with reference to maritime or island borderlands, information technology networks, and bodily borders in Asia?
Communities: What exactly does a community specify, in and across Asian borderlands? How do the communities depend upon factors, such as politics, environmental issues, and history? How is the creation of a community hampered or restricted, in the context of Asian borderlands? How do the state, organizations, and local individuals define a community?
The last date for the submission of papers is 1 December 2011.
