Deadline: 30 September 2015
Papers are being accepted for Health and Human Rights Journal special issue in June 2016 on TB and the right to health. Despite the fact that TB is a curable disease, the global TB burden remains at epidemic proportions. Million people died from this disease globally.
Human rights and the right to health in particular, must be used as tools to increase access to testing and treatment for TB, including for MDR- and XDR-TB. In contrast to traditional public health or strictly biomedical approaches to TB, a rights-based approach must focus on the underlying social and economic determinants of the disease, articulate the rights of people living with and vulnerable to TB, and encourage people to claim these rights. Rights-based approaches also establish the legal obligations of governments and non-state actors, such as drug manufacturers and private health providers, to prevent the spread of TB and to ensure good quality TB testing and treatment are available and accessible for all.
