Call for papers invited for Special Issue in the Journal of Human Rights Practice under The university of York, Centre for Applied Human Rights to protect human rights defenders, create strategies and mechanisms to ensure their safety.
The human rights defenders were be a collective effort to strengthen their legitimacy, visibility and credibility, particularly through national campaigns and solidarity international. There has also been a greater emphasis on the development preventive strategies, anticipating the risks these people could be exposed. But there are some practical difficulties in identifying a person as a “human rights defender”. Should be determined how legitimacy is established and given to a person, and evaluate advantages and disadvantages of different types of protection granted.
The human rights defenders are also very different in their activities and their perception of the world. Rights defenders Humans have a perception of risk varies depending on the norms and values sociocultural. In summary, the diversity of human rights defenders has implications for transnational collaborations and cross their protection.
Main focus will be on-
- development of legal and administrative mechanisms of repression human rights defenders
- methods to create enabling environments for advocacy humans (including the strengthening of digital security)
- ethnographies of risk and protection
- the effectiveness of protection mechanisms.
Criteria-
- The Journal of Human Rights Practice publishes material in the form of original articles (5,000-10,000 words); Policy and Practice Notes (1,500-5,000 words); Review Notes (800-1,200 words) and Review Essays (2,000-4,000 words).
- Submissions from practitioners are particularly welcome. Manuscripts will be subject to peer review.
- To indicate interest in this call for papers, please submit an abstract (300-500 words), the type of submission, a biographical note (maximum of 200 words), and contact details by the given deadline. Please submit this information through the link given in website.
- The editors will accept abstract submissions in English, Arabic, French, Spanish and Russian. Organization will work with short-listed authors to translate their manuscripts into English for peer-review and publication.
- Individuals whose abstracts have been short-listed to an international workshop in March 2013 will be planned to bring together. More details will be provided in due course.
