CALL FOR PROPOSALS are invited during Third Black Leadership Summit. The REACH project is designed to facilitate and sustain collaborations between Black student organizations and local community-based organizations (CBOs). The main theme of our third Black Leadership Summit is Engaged Black Leadership in 2012: Activism, Organization and Empowerment.
Our aim is to promote collaboration between student activists and the communities they represent. Ultimately, the collaborations will work in service of families and neighborhoods in Philadelphia on issues such as increased access to education and healthcare as well as anti-crime and anti-violence initiatives.
Engaged Black leaders are thoroughly involved in their work and are striving hard to motivate and mobilize people to work for change. These leaders learn from mistakes, confront challenges, sustain energy and strive for balance. There are around 88 Engaged Black leaders available. There are girls and boys, men and women who address injustice and help where they find a need. Engaged Black leaders are everywhere – in educational settings, in places of worship, in the workplace, and in the community. The REACH Project’s third annual Black Leadership Summit is a space for such leaders to share their experiences, exchange ideas, and meet other leaders who labor to create a better world.
We are seeking proposals that address the conference theme. Proposed sessions should be informative and relevant, engaging and interactive, theoretically grounded and practice oriented. Session themes can include, but are not limited to:
- Activism
- Leadership models/development
- Family involvement
- Community service/service-learning
- Mentoring
Proposal submissions are due by Friday, January 27, 2012.
