The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative is currently seeking applications for its YSEALI Professional Fellows Program, provide participants a month-long fellowship at U.S.-based non-profit or other organizations, government offices or legislative bodies. Fellows will work with community leaders to enhance their practical expertise, leadership skills and professional contacts to address issues in their home communities.

YSEALI Professionals will have five-week placements in U.S. non-profit organizations and state and local government offices. YSEALI Professional Fellows will work in the field of:

Common Fund for Commodities: 8th Call for Proposals to support Business Activities

The Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) is seeking applications for its 8th Call for Proposals to support of commodity development activities in eligible countries. The CFC seeks to support business activities in the field of commodity development, including agriculture, minerals and metals in Developing Countries.

Objectives

  • Social: Create employment (particularly for youth and women), provide sustained increase in household incomes, reduce poverty, and enhance food security.
  • Economic: Enhance production and productivity, achieve higher local value addition; improve competitiveness of producers, producer organisations and small and medium sized industries, support the financial sector development.
  • Environmental: Enhance production taking into account the environment and its long term possibilities for the same, or increased use of productive resources while maintaining or reducing the impact on the environment.

  • Operate in commodity value chains in CFC member countries (mentioned above) or provide financial services to micro, small and medium sized businesses operating in the value chains
  • Have a proven relevant track record of sound commercial operations in the proposed activities over a period of at least 3 years, which can be documented by means of (audited) financial statements.
  • Share CFC’s values, including internationally recognized principles concerning human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption as reflected in the United Nations Global Compact

Asia-Europe Foundation: Journalists’ Workshop on “Asia-Europe Digital Connectivity”

The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) is inviting applicants for ASEF Journalists’ Workshop on “Asia-Europe Digital Connectivity” to provide an opportunity for 20 journalists to come together to share their professional media experiences and perspectives from national and regional levels, in a direct exchange with their regional counterparts.  It is a two day event which will be held from 7-11 May 2016 in Guangzhou, China.

This workshop will be a platform for the participants to share their journalistic experiences in and perspectives on handling digital connectivity from national and regional levels. Through discussions, the event will explore the current environment of ‘digital connect’ and the role of journalism in reflecting and facilitating ‘connectivity’ between diverse communities.

ASEF is the only permanently established institution of ASEM and is funded by voluntary contributions from its member governments and shares the financing of its projects with its civil society partners across Asia and Europe.

United States Mission to ASEAN: Science and Technology Fellowship for Residents of ASEAN Member State

Are you a scientist from ASEAN? Are you interested in driving policy debates and data-based decision making to address the most pressing regional and national level challenges? Would you like to expand your professional network within ASEAN and to learn first hand how ASEAN works on issues related to S&T? If you answered yes to these questions, the year-long ASEAN Science and Technology Fellowship may be for you!

United States Mission to ASEAN is seeking applications for its ASEAN-US Science and Technology Fellowship which is an opportunity for early career scientists who are citizens and residents of ASEAN Member State (AMS) to join a team of science leaders exploring opportunities to address key areas of concern and engage in policy making that drives national priorities and affects the lives of citizens in ASEAN.

Goals

  • Advance regional cooperation on ASEAN strategic priorities;
  • Strengthen science-based policymaking throughout targeted national government ministries and/or bodies;
  • Empower and build the capacity of scientists in ASEAN to take a more prominent role in their respective country’s efforts to integrate into the ASEAN Community.

Stipend Information: A stipend of $1,200 per month for the 12 months of the Fellowship period will be granted.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based upon the following four criteria:

  • Scientific and/or technical background and professional accomplishments
  • Leadership and/or potential for leadership
  • Communication, interpersonal, and outreach skills
  • Commitment to the three main goals of the ASEAN-U.S. Science and Technology Fellowship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant should be the citizens and residents of AMS.
  • While a Ph.D. is strongly encouraged and preferred, applicants must have at minimum a Master’s degree to apply.
  • The Fellowship anticipates that most Fellows will be at the Ph.D. level.
  • Candidates with Master’s degrees must have at least five years of professional experience.
  • The Fellowship is aimed at early career scientists who will use the experience to enhance and inform future career paths.
  • Applicants should be less than 45 years of age as of February 21, 2016.
  • All eligible applicants, including women and ethnic minorities, are strongly encouraged to apply to the Fellowship.
  • The Fellowship particularly encourages applications from scientists who are not already employed by their home governments.

Asian Women In Business Scholarship Fund 2016: Be the Next Generation of Leaders

Applications are open for the Asian Women In Business (AWIB) Scholarship that encourages and promotes their scholarship, leadership, community service or entrepreneurship. The AWIB Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to students who have the attributes to be the next generation of leaders.

AWIB is the only non-profit, tax-exempt organization in the country with the primary mission of assisting Asian women entrepreneurs.

SEAMEO Youth Leadership Forum: Providing Regional Platform for Youth Representatives!

Southeast Asian Ministers Education Organisation (SEAMEO) is seeking applications for its Youth Leadership Forum from young people with strong potential who are eager to develop their leadership knowledge and skills and want to lead the future generations of ASEAN citizens.

SEAMEO, as a leading organization in developing Southeast Asian human capital, has a critical role in ensuring that the region youth are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that prepare them to become leaders of the next generations. The Youth Leadership Forum will thus serve as one of the catalysts for the effective engagement of young people in steering the course of Southeast Asian future development.

The 2nd SEAMEO Youth Leadership Forum aims to provide a regional platform for youth representatives from SEAMEO-member countries to build their leadership skills and strengthen their capacity to contribute to the ASEAN community now and in the future.

    • Senior students or recent graduates of various degree programs e.g. sciences, maths, humanities, social sciences, media, business, agriculture, etc may apply.
  • Experience: Participants with leadership experience in school or in their communities have an advantage.
  • Language: English proficiency (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Desired personal qualities: open-minded, respectful of other cultures, willing to learn, team player, extroverted, and innovative.

New Zealand ASEAN Scholarship: Empowering Individuals to Contribute towards Development!

Deadline: 15 April 2016

Applicants are invited for New Zealand ASEAN Scholarships (NZAS) funded by the New Zealand Government’s international aid and development programme. They are managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

NZAS is to recognize New Zealand’s close cultural, economic, and geographic ties with Southeast Asia. It seeks to empower individuals with the knowledge, skills and qualifications to contribute to the economic, social, and political development of their region. NZAS are offered for postgraduate level study.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants from all eligible countries must meet the following conditions to be eligible for a New Zealand SEAN Scholarships. Applicant

  • must be at least 18 years old at the time he/she start the scholarship.
  • The country applicant is living in is in the list of eligible countries.
  • is a citizen of the country he/she is living in.
  • have been living in this country for at least the last two years (unless you are a member of the diplomatic corps or a dependent of a member of the diplomatic corps).
  • must confirm that he/she is not currently serving in the military.
  • want to study in New Zealand or in the Pacific and applicant from Kiribati, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu or Vanuatu.
  • want to study at a level that is listed as available for his/her country for the scholarship that he/she is applying for.
  • is expected to meet Immigration requirements for a student visa to New Zealand or the Pacific country he/she will study in.
  • is expected to meet the academic entry requirements (including English language ability) to get into his/her preferred programme of study.
  • should confirm that he/she have not been previously terminated from a New Zealand Government Scholarship because of poor academic performance or personal conduct.
  • can demonstrate that the study he/she want to do will enable him/her to contribute to the sustainable development of his/her home country.
  • should be committed to return to his/her country for a minimum of two years at the end of his/her scholarship to contribute to his/her country’s development.
  • should have at least two years of work experience (part time or full time, paid or voluntary) unless he/she is applying straight from school or during his/her first year of tertiary study (for countries offered undergraduate study)

Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Grants 2016-2017 for Wildlife Conservation in Asia

The Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Hong Kong (OPCFHK) is currently inviting applications for its conservation funding projects in Asia 2016-2017. The Foundation support projects on other threatened amphibians, reptiles, birds, fishes, invertebrates and other aquatic and terrestrial mammals, as well as their habitats throughout Asia.

OPCFHK envisions a world where Asian wildlife remains biologically diverse under the stewardship of humans, corporations and governments. The Foundation supports conservation research and management, as well as community education and capacity.

  • Eastern Asia: China, China, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China, Macao Special Administrative Region, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Republic of Korea.

Thematic Areas

  • Effects of Climate Change on Asian Wildlife and Habitats:
    • Understanding the ecological impacts of climate change to threatened wildlife, e.g. shifts in species’ ranges and in the timing of biological activities;
    • Retaining critical habitats of wildlife affected by climate change by enhancing current protected areas or establishing new protected areas in potential areas after range shift;
    • Reducing carbon emission from deforestation, forest fire and forest or wetland degradation by adaptive and sustainable habitat management practices in wildlife habitats;
    • Sequestrating carbon through reforestation or afforestation programmes with the consideration of restoring or reconnecting critical habitats of wildlife by using native plant species;
    • Organising conservation education programmes to engage communities in order to reduce anthropogenic effects leading to climate change.
  • Effects of Marine Debris on Asian Wildlife and Habitats:The Foundation encourages projects to identify, remove, reduce and prevent marine debris impacting wildlife in Asia.  Conservation projects to understand and reduce the threats on wildlife, or education programmes to engage public participation will be considered.
  • Saving Asian Biodiversity:
    • Identifying habitats with rich biodiversity in Asia;
    • Retaining critical habitats or maintaining species survivorship of threaten biodiversity hotspots by eliminating or mitigating threats;
    • Developing site-based management with species action plans (e.g. IUCN) for conservation planning which focus on specific threatened species;
    • Organising conservation education programmes to engage communities or members of general public to aware of the importance of biodiversity and reduce anthropogenic effects leading to biodiversity loss or species extinction; and
    • Building professional capacity of local conservationists or researchers on field monitoring, species or habitat management, community education, etc.

Grants available & Duartion

  • Majority of successful applications in 2015/16 were one-year projects averaged HK$ 184,000/year (US$23,000).
  • The funding provided is to cover the relevant project expenses during the approved project period, as stated in the application.
  • Multiple-year proposals last from 3 to a maximum of 5 years and limited to HK$ 1 million per year will be considered separately based on project conservation impact.

National Geographic Foundation’s Young Explorers Grant (YEG) Programme

Deadline: 15 January 2016

The National Geographic Foundation in partnership with Luce Foundation is currently inviting applications from the individuals for the Young Explorers Grant (YEG) Programme, providing them with increased funding opportunities for fieldwork in 18 Northeast and Southeast Asian countries.

The YEG offers opportunities to pursue research, conservation, and exploration-related projects consistent with National Geographic’s existing grant programs, including:

  • the Committee for Research and Exploration (CRE),
  • the Expeditions Council (EC), and
  • the Conservation Trust (CT).

Grant Information

Young Explorers Grants vary in amount depending on significance of the project, though most range between US $2,000 and $5,000 at the maximum.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The opportunity is open to individuals of age between 18 to 25 years.
  • Applicants are not required to have advanced degrees. However, a record of prior experience in the fields of research, conservation, or exploration should be submitted as it pertains to the proposed project.
  • Funding is not restricted to United States citizens—foreign nationals are invited to apply.
  • The grant program in Asia is open to residents of Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Vietnam to work anywhere in the world.
  • Applications must be submitted in three categories: Research, Conservation, and Exploration.

MAC AIDS Fund’s International Grants of up to $75,000 USD for NGOs Providing Direct Services for Individuals living with HIV/AIDS

Applications are considered throughout the year

The MAC AIDS Fund supports organizations that provide direct services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS and that address the link between poverty and AIDS.  The aim is to help fund those direct care services most needed in a particular community based on HIV/AIDS prevalence and the availability of other public or private funding sources.

Examples of the kinds of services eligible under this program include, but are not limited to: food and nutrition, transportation assistance, prevention and education, treatment adherence, and housing.

  • Asia Pacific: Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand
  • Europe/Middle East: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom (including Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales)

Grant Size

Grants range from $25,000 to $75,000 USD. The maximum grant amount for a first-time grant is $50,000 USD.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant’s organization must be registered as a non-profit organization in one of the countries listed above.
  • Applicant’s organization must provide direct services that address the link between poverty and HIV/AIDS.
  • Applicant’s organization must have been in operation for three years or longer.
  • Applicant’s organization must have not applied for a grant from the M∙A∙C Affiliate Community Grants Program in the current calendar year.
  • The M·A·C AIDS Fund will not fund the following:
    • Political lobbying
    • Religious activities; faith-based organizations must provide services to all clients regardless of denomination
    • Capital campaigns
    • Sponsorship of events
    • Individuals
    • Research
    • Endowments, unless they provide a direct service to people living with HIV/AIDS
    • Debt reduction
    • Direct medical care or services
    • Programs based outside of the country where the organization is based
    • Requests from past grantees who have not met our reporting requirements or terms of past grants.
