GPE Grants
Program Development Grants – Countries can apply for program implementation grants can receive $200,000 (up to $400,000 in exceptional cases) for the design of an education program that will help the country to implement its national sector strategy.
Eligibility – All Supervising Entities or Managing Entities nominated to support implementation of a Program Implementation Grant6 are eligible to apply for a Program Development Grant. Eligible countries include those classified by the World Bank Group as International Development Association (IDA) 1 and 2 countries; IDA 3 countries that graduated from IDA 2 within the previous 24 months; Small Island Developing States and Fragile States.
Education Sector Program Implementation Grants – GPE partner countries can receive up to $100 million to finance a program that supports the implementation of their education sector plan, including among other things funding school construction and rehabilitation, textbooks, teacher training, and school meals.
Eligibility – Eligibility is based on three dimensions: poverty, education vulnerability and fragility. A country is eligible for an education sector program implementation grants if:
- It has an education sector plan endorsed by its development partners, and
- It is classified as low-income based on its Gross National Product per capita, or
- It is classified as an IDA-eligible small island or small landlocked developing state, or
- It is classified as lower-middle income based on its Gross National Product per capita and its primary completion rate is lower than 85%
