The African Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) Tanzania is a special fund that is only open to agribusiness ideas being implemented in Tanzania. The competition seeks innovative agribusiness ideas that will have a positive development impact on the rural poor. The competition is open only to for-profit companies around the world who wish to implement their business idea in Tanzania.
Types of Ideas Supported
The widest possible range of agribusinesses are eligible for support, including farming, plantation and ranching companies, outgrower schemes, producers, manufacturers and distributors of agricultural inputs – seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, tools and equipment, agroprocessors, traders, merchants and other private sector service providers including market information, extension and other agricultural services.
Competition Objectives
- Fund innovative and commercially sustainable business ideas that have the potential to positively impact the incomes of rural households.
- Improve the way agribusiness and other market systems work, thereby facilitating market entry for rural poor households and businesses.
- Stimulate the development and use of affordable and accessible technologies for the benefit of the rural poor.
- Ensure AECF funds have a catalytic effect by leveraging private sector investment as a fundamental part of the strategy.
Eligibility Criteria
- Companies from anywhere in the world can apply, but the business idea must be implemented in Tanzania.
- Only for-profit private sector companies are eligible. NGOs are not themselves eligible as lead applicants but may be included in a proposed partnership led by a private sector entity, including – plc, Ltd. by shares, registered co-operative society, partnership or sole trader.
- To qualify for funding, your business idea should have a positive impact on the rural poor in Tanzania delivering increased employment, reduced costs, and/or improved productivity.
How to Apply
- Applicants will need to register their business by providing the contact details, brief information about your company and a valid email address.
- Applicants must read and accept the AECF Terms and Conditions that are standard for all AECF competitions.
- Once you have completed the registration process, you will be able to download the TZAW R4 application form template and the guidance notes to help you fill in the application form.
