Are you passionate about African Science and Technology? Are you eager to and have the capacity to link cutting edge scientific debates and issues to the continent’s academics and innovators? Do you have any idea to bring about practical improvements to scientific development in Africa?
Planet Earth Institute (PEI) invites ideas that help translate and transmit the cutting edge scientific debates and issues to Africa’s academics and innovators. This is a call to the Africa Data Challenge where entrants can pitch their ideas on a broad spectrum of themes and areas.
The idea can be
- A local student training program
- A workshop series for policy-makers or helping connect people online
- A new pilot app or platform
- A university-wide campaign or mentoring of a small number of African students
- Or others
The idea must be delivered in 12 months period with budget less than £5,000.
Eligibility Criteria – Ideas must be
- Designed to have a human impact (whether students, academics, civil society, government or other)
- Pitched with the support of an academic institution or related organization in Africa
- Proposed with a clear understanding and appreciation of data privacy, access and availability in Africa
- Developed to include dissemination or findings and conclusions
Interested entities can send proposals around 500 words outlining their project. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to pitch their ideas in a 10-15 minute slot at the PEI UnConference on 18 November 2014 in London.
