Artists, creative entrepreneurs, policy-makers, donors, cultural operators, academics and researchers are invited to register to participate in the African Creative Economy Conference to be held during 13-15 November 2014 in Rabat, Morocco. The conference will highlight best practices in cultural entrepreneurship and further explore the role of arts and culture in development and democracy.
The African Creative Economy Conference (ACEC 2014) is organized by Arterial Network. This is the 4th annual conference, first one had taken place at Nairobi in 2011. ACEC aims to provide a practical analysis and reflective overview of the current status of the African creative economy.
Thematic Focus
- Entrepreneurship in the Creative Sector: Insights and success stories from leaders in art disciplines: pragmatic applications for arts practitioners
- African Arts and Culture by Numbers: The creative economy in a broader geopolitical and economic context: perspectives from development agencies
- Arts, Culture and Democracy in Africa: The status of arts and cultural rights in Africa- democracy, good governance and the creative sector’s contribution to human, social and economic development
- Learning from other experiences and envisioning the future: Lessons from emerging countries: practices in Latin America, Asia and Europe.
ACEC will bring together practitioners, academics, policymakers and stakeholders from 40 African countries and the five continents to debate and formulate the strategies that help sustain and grow the creative sector in Africa.
Eligibility Criteria
- The conference is open to individuals, networks and organizations and public bodies from Africa and around the world with an interest in the African Creative Economy and/or the African arts and cultural sector.
- The conference is designed for artists, academics and researchers, art administrators, creative practitioners, donors and foundations, entrepreneurs, journalists, policy makers, public sector officials, and private sector.
