Call for Abstracts and 88th Annual Education conference and on “Pitching Public Health: A Home Run for ALL” will be organized by Texas Public Health Association. This call for abstracts offers presenters and participants a golden opportunity to promote TPHA’s emphasis on continuing education. Abstracts which describe original research in a public health area for a paper or poster
TPHA and affiliate members, local and regional health departments, hospitals, universities and students are eligible to submit abstracts. The participants for the conference are required to pay the registration fees for annual conference. Submissions from each category can be considered for publication in the TPHA Journal. Award of $200 will rewarded to the winner in each of the 3 categories.
Categories and rules of Competition:
- Public Health Education Materials: Projects designed to educate the public on a public health topic. Some examples are: pamphlets, brochures, slide shows, videotapes, computer programs, etc. Tables will be provided to display your materials. Each presenter will have 4’ of space. Education Materials presenters must provide and be responsible for their own equipment (TV, VCR, laptop computers, etc.)
- Research Papers: (Original research of an empirical nature, conceptual or methodological issues or innovative techniques in a public health area) Paper presentations will have a strictly enforced time limit of 15 minutes.
- Poster Presentations: (Original research of an empirical nature, conceptual or methodological issues or
Judging of presentations is weighted most heavily on Evidence of public health contribution but is also judged on clarity, delivery of research paper, overall plan and organization of material, ability to answer questions and knowledge of topic.
All Presentations (posters, research papers and education materials projects) are automatically eligible for the additional $100 “Members’ Choice” award. The winner of this award is chosen by majority vote of those who attended the meeting.
