A Conference will be organized on the subject “How to stop human trafficking?” on January 19 at the County Administrative Center in downtown Riverside.
The Riverside County Commission for Women’s first forum of 2012 will highlight the increase in laborer trafficking and the smuggling of women and children mainly for sexual exploitation.
Eminent Speakers will include:
- Sheriff’s Lt. Ernie Baker
- Deputy District Attorney Gerald Fineman
- Jennifer O’Farrell of Operation Safehouse
Operation Safehous is a nonprofit organization which provides shelter to troubled youths, runaways or those estranged from their families. According to the U.S. State Department, there will be around 600,000 to 800,000 people who are victims of trafficking every year.
Most of them include women and children, who are transported across international borders for the purpose of pornography, commercial sex, and other forms of exploitation. However, some men are also trafficked, forced into debt bondage or servitude after with the help from smugglers to gain illegal entry to the United States and other western countries, as per federal officials.
