Conference of young Alaskans is being organized in Juneau from January 4-7, 2012. This conference is being hosted by “The Institute of the North” especially for young Alaskans interested in discussing the state’s rich history, vibrant present and prosperous future.
The main aim of this conference is to instill confidence in Alaska’s young people to become leaders in their communities, the state and the nation. The conference of Young Alaskans is being organized after the Alaska Constitutional Convention of 1955 and offers a golden opportunity for youth of age group 16 to 25 to meet and discuss current issues and challenges facing the state. More than half of the delegates are from outside of Anchorage and 30 percent are Alaska Native. A total of 29 communities will be represented, including strong delegations from Fairbanks, Nome, Bethel, Kotzebue, Ketchikan and Sitka.
Educational sessions will be organized prior to the conference which will be conducted by experts from economic industry sectors representing the diversity of the state and offering a baseline of information to be explored during the conference. Delegates have mentioned their topics of interest. Some of them include economic resilience, fiscal policy, education and workforce development.
