The United Nations Global Pulse and the Climate Change Team of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon are inviting recently implemented or published projects and initiatives that use Big Data and analytic to show the economic implications of climate impact and opportunities to manage climate risks for the Big Data Climate Challenge to present in the Climate Summit to be held on 23 September 2014. The teams of winning project will be provided the supports that include developing or improving data visualizations to maximize impact and accessibility across audiences and media channels.
Big Data means the high volumes and varieties of data including passively generated ‘data exhaust,’ digital media/web content, physical sensors, and crowd-sourced or citizen-generated data.
Prizes and Awards
- The winning projects will be showcased at the 2014 Climate Summit at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
- Winning project teams will be provided with advisory and technical support to finalize work and prepare project visualizations for the Climate Summit 2014.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can be from anywhere in the world with the condition that the project use Big Data and analytic to address real world impacts of climate change.
- Proposed projects must have solid evidence of validity and be founded in the use of quantitative data.
