Call for Art exhibition: Celebrating the words of African Americans

Round Rock Arts (RRA) is currently inviting applications for its exhibition in Art Space: Celebrating the words of African Americans. Artists are invited to submit artwork that focuses on African Americans in literature or written text (novels, poetry, historical writings, song, etc.).

Painting or Photography entries must be framed and have a professional appearance. Paintings must be ready for hanging with wire (no saw tooth hangers) and protected under either glass or Plexiglass with the exception of media used on canvas or clay board.

Key dates

  • 12/30/15: Notifications will be sent to artists who submitted artwork for consideration.
  • 01/11/16: Artists, whose work was accepted, will bring their work to ArtSpace between 9am-10am.
  • 2/04/16: First Thursday Exhibit Reception from 5:30pm-7:00pm in ArtSpace.
  • 02/29/16: Artists will pick up their work from ArtSpace between 9am-10am.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Artists are invited to submit artwork that focuses on African Americans in literature or written text (novels, poetry, historical writings, song, etc.)
  • Artists of all cultural backgrounds are encouraged to submit artwork for this show.
  • Artists under the age of 18 may submit with parental consent.
  • Unframed stretched canvas will be accepted if the sides are painted and no staples are visible.
  • Minimum canvas depth shall be 1” or greater. (Fully-wrapped canvas only.)
  • Artist to put label on back of artwork in upper left hand corner with: Title of Painting, Artist Name and Phone Number.

How to Apply

Artist may submit up to 3 original works in pdf or jpeg formats — with a maximum file size for each image not to exceed 1.5 MB each – using the submission form available on the website.
