Natural Resource Management (NRM) Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Research Grants Program is part of Stream 2 of the Regional NRM Planning for Climate Change Fund, which has been developed as part of the Australian Government’s Clean Energy Future plan.
This merit-based grants program will offer $8 million funding over four financial years to research institutions to work with regional NRM organizations to deliver information on climate change, its impacts and adaptation responses, and provide guidance on how to use that information.
The objectives of the Impacts and Adaptation Grants Program are to improve the capacity of regional NRM organizations to plan for climate change, by:
- Improving the quality and accessibility of regionally relevant information on climate change impacts and potential adaptation responses.
- Providing regional NRM organizations with access to expert advice on how to apply climate change information in their planning.
- Encouraging the integration of local knowledge and experience into understanding of climate change impacts, opportunities and potential adaptation responses.
Assisting regional NRM organizations to plan for the biodiversity impacts of climate change and capitalize on the opportunities provided by the Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) and the Biodiversity Fund. For delivery of Stream 2 of the NRM Fund, including the Impacts and Adaptation Grants Program, the 56 regional NRM regions have been divided into eight ‘clusters’. It is envisaged that there will be one Impacts and Adaptation research project for each of the eight clusters, with the potential for one or more national projects.
To be eligible for the Impacts and Adaptation Grants Program, applicants must be a research institution, defined as:
- Higher education institution
- Publicly-funded research agency established under Commonwealth or State legislation
