Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) has issued a call for proposals for the International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) 2012-2014. IYIP is a part of the employment program for Canadian graduates (ages 19 to 30 inclusive) under the Career Focus stream of the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy (YES). Canada’s YES provides Canadian youth with tools and experience they need to launch successful careers.
The deadline for submissions is February 9, 2012, at 2 p.m. PST.
Program Objectives
- Provide eligible youth with international experience, skills and knowledge that will prepare them for future employment
- Increase employment opportunities by promoting awareness among Canadian organizations of the advantages of integrating young Canadian professionals into their structures and programs
- Provide opportunities for Canadians to increase their awareness of, deepen their understanding of, and engage in international development
- Contribute to the advancement of CIDA’s mandate to reduce poverty, promote human rights and increase sustainable development and to contribute to meeting CIDA’s priorities for official development assistance.
Financial Contribution
CIDA will contribute up to $12,000 per intern for a minimum of five interns per year up to a maximum of 20 interns per year per organization to cover costs directly incurred by the intern and specified within the contribution agreement. CIDA will also provide the organization with an allowance of up to 20 percent of the total project cost―a maximum of $3,000―per intern to cover all administrative and overhead costs.
Eligibility
Organizations submitting proposals must be incorporated in Canada and have at least two years’ experience working in the area of international development.
Organizations that currently have an active agreement under IYIP cannot submit an additional proposal unless their existing agreement is due to expire no later than July 31, 2012.
