The Region of Peel and Homelessness Partnering Strategy’s (HPS) Community Advisory Board have issued two calls for proposals for Organizations to prevent and reduce homelessness. Organizations may apply for one-year grant for Support services and Capital Projects and for a three-year grant for the Housing First Pilot Project.
Proposed projects must serve or target individuals and/or families who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness which is defined as a situation where one has no fixed address and is spending time in emergency shelters or places not meant for human habitation. The definition also includes individuals exiting institutions such as child welfare system, mental health facility, hospitals, and correctional institutions. Being at imminent risk of homelessness is defined as a situation where one’s current housing will end within 2 months; for whom no subsequent residence has been identified; and is at immediate risk of moving into an emergency shelter or a place not meant for human habitation.
Grants Available and Duration
- Support Services and Capital Projects Grant (For projects that seek to prevent and reduce homelessness)
- Successful applicants will receive a one-year grant of up to $80,000. The granting period will begin April 1, 2016 and end March 31, 2017.
- Housing First Pilot Project Grant (For one pilot project that uses a Housing First approach and implements activities that help individuals who are chronically and episodically homeless access and maintain permanent housing, connect with mainstream services and reintegrate into the community).
- One successful applicant will receive a grant of $318,584 per year, for three years, receiving a total grant of $955,752. The granting period will begin April 1, 2016 and end March 31, 2019.
Eligibility Criteria
The Organizations of Canada that must meet the following requirements can apply for funding:
- Be an organization located in Peel Region with a mandate to provide human and social services;
- Be incorporated as a non-profit organization;
- Be governed by a volunteer board of directors that is representative of the community it serves;
- Be an organization that provides equal access to services for individuals of diverse cultures and disabilities;
- Have established and documented financial management systems in place and be able to provide relevant annual financial documents;
- Comply with the Ontario Human Rights Code in hiring practices and in provision of all of its services; and
- Have the appropriate and necessary liability insurance coverage for all aspects of the organization.
