Toronto Arts Council is seeking applications for the Visual Artists program to support visual artists who have a professional independent art practice for the creation/production of new work or the completion of works in progress.
Visual Arts includes drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, printmaking, book works, performance art, installation and fine crafts.

This has been a focal point for their vision – Creative City, Block by Block. It aims to connect every neighbourhood in Toronto to the transformative and inspirational power of arts activity.

Grant Information
The program provides two levels of support to artists at varying points in their career:
- $5,000 – for emerging artists in the early stages of their professional career, who have produced a small body of work, and achieved some local recognition and/or have limited public exhibition experience. Generally, they have had between 2 and 7 years of professional arts practice.
- $10,000 – for mid-career and established artists.
Eligibility Criteria
- Individual artists must:
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident (landed immigrant) or have an application pending for Permanent Resident Status.
- Have been a resident of Toronto for at least one year prior to the deadline, and live and work in Toronto for at least eight months of the year.
- Be a “professional artist”, which the TAC defines as someone who has developed their skills through training and/or practice; is recognized as such by artists working in the same artistic tradition; actively practices their art; seeks payment for their work; and has a history of public presentation.
- Not have an outstanding final report due in the stream that the grant application is being submitted.
- Only receive one discipline-stream project grant and one strategic initiative grant per calendar year.
- Organizations and collectives must:
- Be located and operating in the City of Toronto.
- Be an incorporated non-profit organization or a non-profit collective (two or more artists working together under a group name with associated bank account).
- Have a track record of arts activity.
- Have a viable administrative and financial plan for meeting the proposed activities.
- Have received two project grants in order to be eligible for operating funding.
- Not have an outstanding final report due in the stream that the grant application is being submitted.
- Only receive one discipline-stream operating or project grant and one strategic initiative grant per calendar year.
