Funding opportunity available to participate in summer program on Social Entrepreneurship in the US during the summer of 2013 as part of the European Student Leaders program.
The purpose of this grant is to allow the 20 European participants to examine social entrepreneurship in the U.S., including the development, history, challenges, and successes of U.S. social enterprises. The successful applicant will spend five weeks at a university in the U.S., as well as time in Washington, D.C. The Summer Institute is intended to introduce participants to U.S. culture and society, as well as provide a foundation in how to employ entrepreneurial skills to address social issues.
Upon completion of the Summer Institute, students will be encouraged to implement a public service project when they return home, help contribute to a better understanding of American society among their classmates, and remain active in any alumni activities.
Grant includes airfare, tuition and fees, lodging and meals at the host university, and a daily incidentals allowance. Visa sponsorship and accident and sickness coverage is included. A range of associated academic and cultural programming will also be covered.
Eligibility-
- be Irish citizens or EU citizens in Ireland. Dual US/EU citizens are ineligible to apply.
- be aged 18-22 years old, with at least one year of university remaining.
- have a keen interest in social entrepreneurship and a desire to learn about and experience US culture.
- be able to participate in the program in its entirety (five weeks, beginning in July 2013).
