Royal Holloway, University of London and Cumberland Lodge are jointly inviting proposals from students planning to commence doctoral degree from the academic session 2014-15.
The scholarship covers tuition fees along with maintenance award of £12,600 per annum. The award-holder will be offered every opportunity to benefit from an association with the educational charity, including invitations to high-profile conferences, lectures and seminars. The award-holder will also be offered opportunities to contribute essays, blogs and informal talks to visiting groups thereby enhancing their own public engagement profile as well as contributing to the impact of the charitable foundation itself.

Institutional History of Cumberland Lodge broadly construed (i.e. post-war education policy; biographical research on key founders of the charity; the impact of political ideology on teaching methods in pre-second world war German education and elsewhere; philosophy of education, with an emphasis on moral development).
Eligibility Criteria –
- The award is open to United Kingdom and European Union students. Overseas students are not eligible to apply.
- Award is offered to applicant who will commence a new doctoral course full time in the academic year 2014-15; not to students who have already started a doctorate.
- Applicants can be from any academic discipline who wish to embark on a doctorate in any of the above mentioned research areas.
- Applicant must commit to contribute 10 residential weekend duties at Cumberland Lodge per annum and assist in the Lodge’s work with postgraduate students.
- Applicant must commit to take part in Cumberland Lodge’s annual conference for doctoral students, and to assist in the selection of Cumberland Lodge postgraduate scholars.
Complete application includes 1000 words proposal, copies of academic transcripts and resume/CV to show published work and any relevant paid or voluntary work experience. Names of two academic referees are also required to attach.
