The Global Poverty Action Fund (GPAF) was established to provide financial aid to programs that focus on alleviating poverty and achieving the Millennium Development Goals. The programs basically aim to improve the overall quality of life of poor people, by providing service, security and justice. Proposals are invited for the next round of funding. In order to qualify, the project should show a clear impact on poverty, definite and tangible results, and value for money.
Funds are allocated through 2 funding windows- the Innovation Window and the Impact Window.
The Innovation Window: The estimated value of funds available through this window is 10% of GPAF (grants worth £4m agreed annually). The primary aim of this window is to provide funds to programs that have an innovative approach to reduce poverty. The duration of the fund is up to 3 years. Small UK-based not for profit organizations, having an average income of less than £500,000 p.a. for the past 3 years, are eligible to apply for funds through this window.
The Impact Window: The proposed value of funds available through this window is 90% of GPAF (grants worth £36m agreed annually).it supports projects that aim to reduce poverty and are linked to MDGs. The duration of the fund is up to 3 years. Medium sized UK-based not for profit organizations can apply for the funds, however, organizations receiving PPAs are excluded. Locally registered CSOs in countries enlisted on the “Organization” section of the “Impact Organization and Project Countries,” on the website of DFID, can also apply.
The next funding round for the Innovation Window opened on 13 October 2011. The funding round will include two stages: Concept Note and Full Proposal. The last date for submission of concept notes is up to midnight on Thursday, 24 November, 2011. Only UK organizations can apply for this fund.
