American Jewish World Service (AJWS) is currently inviting submissions for its national design competition, entitled “Where do you Give?” focused on philanthropy and social change. Through this competition, the artists get challenges to create a 21st century icon inspired by the values and imagery of the traditional Jewish tzedakah, or charity, box. For the competition, artists are encouraged to consider the tzedakah box in the context of an increasingly interconnected, global and technologically accelerated world.
Objective
The competition aims to spark vibrant conversations about where, why and to whom American Jews donate money. This design competition pays homage to the tzedakah box of old and honors the enduring values it represents as it invites artists to construct an updated vehicle for giving.
The Prize
- Grant Prize
One of the nine finalists selected as the Grand Prize winner will receive a $2500 cash prize and an opportunity to travel with American Jewish World Service (AJWS) to visit some of AJWS’s partners in the developing world. During his/her travel, the winner will have an opportunity meet with local designers and share his/her experiences using different forms of media.
- Finalists
Nine finalists will receive a $250 cash prize and will have their work featured in a national mobile tour starting in New York City. In addition to national recognition and prominent display, finalists will get to share their story about their design in greater detail on WhereDoYouGive.org
