Seeking applications for The Civic Data Challenge which turns the raw data of “civic health” into beautiful, useful applications and visualizations, enabling communities to be better understood and made to thrive.
Challenge participants will be provided civic health and community attachment data, as well as data on health, safety, education, and the economy. Participants will analyze the data, identify connections and correlations, and create visual representations and interactive products to showcase their findings. These may include infographics, apps, animations, videos, or other products.
The Civic Data Challenge will bring new eyes, new minds, new findings, and new skill sets to the field of civic health.
Eligibility–
- citizens or permanent residents of the United States who are at least thirteen (13) years old at the time of entry (or teams of eligible individuals)
- private entities, such as corporations or other organizations, that are incorporated in and maintain a primary place of business in the United States. Individuals submitting on behalf of corporations, nonprofits, or groups of individuals (such as an academic class or other team) must meet the eligibility requirements for individual participants. An individual may join the Challenge with more than one team, corporation, or nonprofit organization. NCoC, Knight Foundation, and Fission Strategies employees, as well as Challenge judges, and members of such persons’ immediate family (spouses, children, siblings, parents), and persons living in the same household, whether or not related, are not eligible to participate.
Prizes–
For each category (education, health, safety and economy) prizes will be available for Best Visual Representation and Best Interactive Product. Prizes will also be awarded for ‘Best in Show’ winner. An individual can submit as many entries as they would like and can submit one entry in multiple issue categories (if applicable).
