The India Community Center (ICC) came into being in February 2003 with the efforts of the Godhwani brothers, Anil and Gautam, first generation Indians and successful entrepreneurs, whose foray into the non-profit world began with the launch of the ICC.  They were joined by other successful Indian American entrepreneurs and professionals to build and grow the organization. ICC is financially supported through membership fees and community donations.  It has also received some limited corporate, foundation and government funding.  Today it is the largest and only Indian American community center of its kind in North America

ICC promotes Indian culture and values by providing social, cultural, recreational and community programs, thereby uniting the Indian community, and raising awareness about Indian culture in the local community.

New ICC ‘Seva’ Awards

The ICC is seeking applications for the ‘Seva’ Awards that aim at recognizing individuals and organizations whose leadership has made a significant impact in the communities they serve. ICC has instituted this award to support and reward non-profit leaders who excel in their fields, and to inspire and motivate like-minded non-profit leaders to strive for similar success.

‘Seva’ Award Categories

SCALE: An organization that has significantly scaled and grown its impact over time (e.g. volunteer numbers, service to community, raising funds for the organization, number of staff).

INNOVATION: An organization that has demonstrated innovation in its processes, its services, its marketing and/or in its capacity to leverage technology to address a need in the community.

LOCAL COMMUNITY: An organization that focuses its services on serving the local Bay Area community.

YOUTH: An organization that has been founded by youth, lead by youth or has active youth involvement.

Eligibility

Any official Sevathon partner, that is also a non-profit registered 501 (c3) organization, is qualified.

Prize

Winning organizations get a plaque of recognition for the key individual involved and a $5,000 cash award to the organization of the awardees choice. The awardees will also be recognized at ICC’s Annual Banquet in September 2011.

Last date for submission of applications is August 7, 2011.
