Student Journalism Institute is being organized for brightest young journalists in America. This program will be conducted in Dillard University in New Orleans from May 18 to June 1, 2014. Opportunities for students include reporting, copy editing, photography, Web production, newspaper page design and video journalism and interactive news. The objective of this program is to to learn to produce material that meets the standards of the most prestigious and demanding news organizations in the nation.
Submission required-
- A resume and this application form completely filled in
- An attached essay of no more than 500 words written by applicant on why they want to be a journalist
- A letter of recommendation from a faculty member of their institution or from an editor of a news organization at which they have been employed or been an intern. This letter MUST be sent directly by the individual making the recommendation, not attached to this application form.
- Six clips from a student or other publication or Web site of stories they have written, or stories they have edited(Videos, photographs and graphics may be from an unpublished portfolio and you may send a URL for a Web site where they appear, or a CD or DVD.)
Benefits–
There is no cost whatsoever to attend the Institute. Students are provided with room and board and all of their costs, including transportation to and from the Institute, are paid by The New York Times Company. A stipend is provided for incidentals.
Eligibility & Criteria–
Applicants must be a student at a historically black college or university OR a student member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
