Youth Challenge International (YCI) in partnership with Reto Juvenil Internacional (RJI) has announced the launch of the Youth Discovery Program in Costa Rica this winter. This one to four week volunteer program is aimed at addressing environmental and community development projects in Costa Rica.
In this context, young volunteers are invited to take part in the in community development projects that include:
- Protecting and improving national parks
- Contributing to environmental conservation
- Developing and implementing eco-tourism programs
- Conducting environmental research and education
- Participating in community based infrastructure projects.
Program Duration
The program has been designed to accommodate a variety of volunteers depending upon time they can contribute to the projects. There are even one-week options for volunteers.
About Youth Discovery Program
Working directly with local partners, Youth Discovery volunteers implement projects focused on eco-tourism, conservation, environmental initiatives and community based infrastructure projects as part of short-term team placements.
Volunteers get an opportunity to take initiative and employ their skills and interests to mobilize local youth, interact directly with the community, and become fully involved in innovative environmental programming.

- Ideal for individuals aged 18 to 30.
- Team-based programs of one to four weeks.

- Fundraising targets range from $1,500 to $2,500.
Eligibility
Anybody between the ages of 18 and 35, who is a Canadian, American or European Union citizen, resident or landed immigrant, can communicate in English and is physically able to go overseas can apply.

Application Deadline
YCI does not have specific deadlines dates for its Youth Discovery projects. They operate on a first-come, first-serve basis.
