The YMCA Achievers Scholarship comprises (1) $5,000 and (2) $1,500 scholarships. This application offers opportunity to enter into the competition with a chance to win one of the three awards.
Eligibility Criteria
For award eligibility, students must fulfill the following during the current program year (August 2012-2013):
· Be enrolled in a YMCA Achievers Program
· Be a high school senior in 2012-2013 academic year
· Show strong commitment to service through volunteer/community experience
· Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or higher on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) for both semesters of the academic year
· Plan to enroll in an accredited two or four year college, university, or vocational/technical school upon high school completion
· Submit three recommendation letters from a non-family program volunteer, teacher, and/or mentor (All recommendation letters must be typed and signed).
Payment of Awards:
To access the funds following graduation, students must:
· Be enrolled full-time in college during the fall semester immediately following their high school
Completion (or funds will be forfeited)
· Submit name of college where student has been admitted along with department mailing address, class schedule and student ID number for proper application of scholarship to the student’s account
Scholarship Process and Notification:
· Applications are due to the YMCA by or before August 24, 2012
· Notification of scholarship awards will be sent to students via mail by September 7, 2012.
· Recognition Banquet on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 7:00 pm
