The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is accepting proposals for projects that contribute to the development of an integrated approach to conserve tigers in the wild in the long-term under its Integrated Tiger Habitat Conservation Program (ITHCP). The primary objective of ITHCP is to improve the conservation of selected tiger populations and their habitat with active participation of local communities. The program aims to contribute to the long-term viability of global tiger populations. This will be achieved through funding and facilitating a range of interdisciplinary conservation projects, focusing on integrated tiger conservation activities on the ground.
Collaborations of international NGOs, national stakeholders, local communities and government agencies; especially the collaborations between cross-disciplinary institutions, such as NGOs and governments is highly encouraged.
Grant amount range between EUR700,000 and EUR2 million. Around 3-4 projects will be supported under this call.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible countries are – Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal and Viet Nam.
- Applicants can be international and national NGOs, local authorities and administrations of protected areas.
- Applicants must have demonstrated technical and financial capacities at a level comparable to the proposed project, capability and ideally a track record in managing resources and undertaking the project proposed.
- Applicant organizations must be legally authorized to receive charitable funds.
- Proposed projects must contribute to the conservation of tiger populations, their habitats and simultaneously to the livelihoods of local communities.
- Proposed projects must aim to implement one of the following aspects
- Development of direct protection measures like anti-poaching.
- Prevention/mitigation of human-wildlife conflicts.
- Stabilization of the prey base.
- Improvement of management and monitoring of protected areas.
- Sustainable management of ecosystems and their natural resources.
- Development of sustainable and alternative income-generating activities for the target populations, such as ecotourism.
- Projects with a socioeconomic or environmental management component must have in place measures that contribute to the mitigation of the impacts of environmental change, such as climate change.
