Bloomberg Initiative is accepting project ideas from low and middle-income countries for the initiative ‘To Reduce Tobacco Use’ grant program 2014. Applications from China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Mexico, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Ukraine, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, the countries where greatest number of tobacco users reside, are highly encouraged. The grant program aims to support projects that develop and deliver high-impact, evidence-based tobacco control interventions.
Projects that lead to sustainable improvements in tobacco control laws, regulations, policies and programs at the national or sub-national level are funded by the grant program. These projects can be (but not limited to) tax and price measures, including anti-smuggling measures; direct and indirect advertising bans and effective enforcement of bans, including promotion and sponsorship; establishment of smoke-free workplaces and public places, and effective enforcement of smoke-free policies; implementation of graphic warning labels on tobacco products; other evidence-based regulatory/legislative initiatives. The project also supports development of strategic alliances and coalitions; monitoring Industry behaviour and practices; and strategic litigation.
Applicant can demand grant amount from US$50,000 up to US$500,000 for short term, one-year or two-year grant projects.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Government (national Ministries, state/provincial authorities and affiliate offices and others) and non-government organizations from low- and middle-income countries are eligible to apply.
- Applicant organizations must be recognized legal entities capable of entering into contractual arrangements, receiving foreign funds and assuming legal and financial obligations.
- Individuals are not eligible to apply.
