The British High Commission, Singapore and the British Council invite researchers and policy-makers in UK and Southeast Asia who are in the initial stages of new collaborations for Collaborative Development Awards (CDAs). The award encourages UK-SE Asia Knowledge Partnership and aims to catalyze research collaborations through new joint project development and access to research funds.
The award support travel and subsistence from SE Asia to the UK or vice versa. Funding requests can be made to spend time in either region, visiting one or more laboratories to identify opportunities for collaboration or to discuss specific projects with universities or companies. Selected applicants will be provided £2,000 to cover economy class flights, local travel, visa fees, accommodation, meals and telephone costs.
Supported Activities
- SE Asia-based researchers or policymakers visiting the UK, or UK-based researchers or policymakers visiting SE Asia to explore and define areas for future research collaborations
- Short secondments to a potential partner’s research laboratory in Southeast Asia or the UK to evaluate the viability of joint projects or to develop new project proposals
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can be researchers or policy-makers in universities, polytechnics or research institutes in the UK or one of five South-East Asian countries – Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Laos or Singapore.
- Proposed visit must be minimum 10 days with a clear visit plan agreed between the researcher and the host/s organization.
- An applicant can submit only one application.
- Researchers and policy-makers who have received a CDA in the past are not eligible to apply.
- Applications must be made in English language. Proposals must be completed on the Collaborative Development Awards 2014-2015 Application Form and only the fully completed applications are considered for evaluation.
- Applicants must commit to first make visit and submit final report to British Council to get the payment of £2,000 travel grant.
