International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is accepting nominations for ‘Courage in Journalism Awards’ 2014. The aim of the function is to honor the courage of women journalists in their professional life. Three women journalists who have demonstrated extraordinary strength of character in pursuing their profession under difficult or dangerous circumstances, such as government oppression, threats to personal safety and other intimidating obstacles will be honored with the award.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Candidate can be full-time or freelance women reporters, writers, editors, photographers or producers working in any country.
- An individual cannot nominate her/himself as candidate.
- The candidate being nominated must be a woman journalist.
- The nominated candidate must be currently working as a full-time or freelance journalist in print, broadcast or online media.
- Candidates employed by organizations whose main objective is not journalism will not be considered for this award.
The nominator must have the following details before beginning the nomination process – description of the conditions under which the candidate works; description of specific instances where the candidate has faced danger because of her work, such as government oppression, torture, threats to family, defamation or imprisonment; nomination statement; examples of candidate’s work (for print journalists – 2-3 articles written by the candidate; for editors or publishers – 2-3 examples of overall work; for TV or radio reporters or producers – audio or video clip that features the work is of the candidate; for photojournalists – 4-5 photographs taken by the candidate).
