Nominations are invited for The Elinor Ostrom Award on Collective Governance of the Commons, which aims to promote the work of practitioners, young and senior scholars involved in the field of the commons. Their will be grand winning amount up to US$10,000 for the first winner of this award.
The objective of this award is to acknowledge and promote the work of practitioners, young and senior scholars involved in the field of the commons. According with Ostrom’s large legacy the Award will go to academic and applied works on traditional commons, local commons, interlinked commons, global commons, knowledge, cultural and virtual commons.
First, second, and third place winners each receive up to US$3,000 in travel grants so that they can attend the IASC congress where the Award is presented. The Award can be given to groups or individuals.
Documents required for Academics-
- Nominator’s letter explaining the reasons for the nomination
- A CV of the candidate(s) showing his/hers/their involvement in the field of institutional analysis, collective action and the commons theory, as well as their involvement on academic community building and mentorship
- Publications that demonstrate hers, his, or their contribution to the field
- Three recommendation letters from relevant scholars or institutions (one of them can come from a non-academic institution)
Documents required for Practitioners-
- Nominator’s letter stating the reasons for the nomination, and stating that the candidates do not have formal conflicts with other communities or government agencies
- Description of the activities undertaken by the candidates, and their relevance for the defense, conservation, management, and/or creation of the commons; names and signatures of all group members.
- Written and graphic proofs of the above (proofs can be reports, chronicles, photographs, videos, newspaper articles, web links to videos)
- In case of formally constituted groups: a formal constitution document describing the organizational structure, the gender ratio, and their constituency; names and signatures of the organization officials.
- Three recommendation letters from relevant institutions or well-known practitioners (one of them can come from a scholar)
Categories-
- Scientific – Young Scholars (no more than 10 years after PhD)- For innovation and achievement in the scholarship of collective action and the commons, impact on public policies and commons management experiences.
- Scientific – Senior Scholars (more than 10 years after PhD)- For innovation and achievement in the scholarship of collective action and the commons, impact on public policies and commons management experiences. Impact of his/hers educational and mentoring activities in new generations of commons scholars and practitioners.
- Applied (practitioners)-For the practical applications (creation, sustainable use, management, defense) in the area of the commons and collective.
