Deadline- March 28, 2013
Applicants through out the world are invited to apply for Media@McGill Postdoctoral fellowship program offered by McGill University in Montreal, Canada. The mission of this scholarship is to provide an interdisciplinary environment in which ideas that challenge prevailing orthodoxies, lead public debate, engage decision-makers and inform public policy about media, can be generated and put into wide circulation in the most influential venues of national and international opinion formation.
Media@McGill approaches media as historical materialities — as modes of representation, communication channels, broadcasting/ narrow casting mediums (including newspapers, magazines, prints, radio, TV, mail, the telephone, the internet, and new media), but also as the compound of information providers, journalists, industries and institutions which is at the core of democratic public culture. Media encompass practices of transmission, circulation, storage, memory and meaning—and, importantly, media materialize the failure of all of these as well.
Fellows are provided with a workspace, and are expected to take an active role in the research activities and academic life of Media@McGill (participation in conferences, seminars, etc.). They may also have the possibility of teaching a course within the Department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill.
