The Hodgson Scholarships owe their origin to the Will of Elizabeth Hodgson, widow of the Liverpool Solicitor Joseph Hodgson, who expressed a wish to advance the education and training of lawyers who might work for the benefit of Merseyside. The Trustees wish to support doctoral researchers who will benefit from the education and training offered at the University of Liverpool, with a view to encouraging the intellectual growth of promising legal scholars and to nurturing close links with the Liverpool city-region. The Liverpool Law School is part of the School of Law and Social Justice (which also includes the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology). Our vibrant research culture is clustered around a series of groupings, each of which promotes excellence in their relevant field and provides a supportive and inspiring environment for postgraduate research.
Eligibility-
Candidates must have a good first degree in Law (or a related discipline) and preferably should also have completed (or be near to completing) a postgraduate degree in Law at Masters or an equivalent level. Hodgson Scholars will be expected to provide a limited degree of research assistance to the Law School over the course of their doctoral study. There will also be opportunities to engage in undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching (which will be remunerated separately by the Law School at the standard rate).
