The Japan Foundation offers funding opportunity for Developing countries to pursue Master’s Scholarships in the field of Science in Sustainability, Development, and Peace at United Nations University ISP in Japan.
The programme addresses pressing global issues of sustainability, climate change, development, peacebuilding, and human rights through an innovative interdisciplinary approach that integrates the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The programme builds on the strong record of the United Nations University (UNU) in training and capacity development, and utilizes the extensive network of scholars and academic institutions participating in UNU research.
Students who earn at least 30 credits, successfully complete a master’s thesis, and pass the final examination will receive a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Sustainability, Development, and Peace.
UNU-ISP welcomes applicants with-
- A keen interest in the pressing global issues on the UN agenda, and in particular those of sustainability, development, and peace.
- The intention to proactively apply academic research findings to policy making.
- A strong desire to contribute to the solving of problems concerning global environment, peace, and development, through an interdisciplinary approach.
Eligibility–
- A completed bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognised university or institution of higher education
- A particular interest and career aspiration in at least one of the following thematic areas-
- Global Change and Sustainability
- Peace and Security
- International Cooperation and Development
- English language proficiency
The minimum score requirements for English language qualifications required by UNU-ISP are-
- 600 in TOEFL – Paper-Based Testing (PBT)
- 100 in TOEFL – Internet-Based Testing (iBT)
- 7.0 in IELTS – Academic format
Other benefits-
The Value of the scholarship is 10,000 USD per year. Estimated total expenses for the master’s degree programme for 2 years including tuition are 6,041,800 JPY or approximately 75,438 USD. Applicants must show financial resources adequate to meet the full costs of educational and living expenses. The Japan Foundation for UNU (JFUNU) Scholarship is available for outstanding applicants from developing countries who can demonstrate a need for financial assistance, and they will be considered as candidates for the award of the scholarship.
