United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women – UN Women is seeking innovative projects for the SEED Awards in Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment. The major objective of the SEED Award is to help the most promising start-up entrepreneurs, women-led enterprises and other social and environmental inspiring businesses to integrate ideas and proposals to address pressing local issues.
Enterprises that have made significant contributions to mitigating and/or adapting to climate change as well as enterprises which prioritize gender equality and/or are women-led or owned will receive SEED Awards.
Total three SEED Awards will be made in the year 2014. Each award winner will receive $5,000.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Enterprises must demonstrate entrepreneurship and innovation; deliver economic, social and environmental benefits; and have the intention and potential to become financially sustainable.
- Enterprises must be locally driven or locally led with potential for scale up or significant replication.
- Enterprises must be in the early stages of implementation and in a country with a developing or emerging economy.
- For SEED Gender Equality Awards, the enterprises must be run or owned by a woman or women and priorities gender equality and/or women’s empowerment as a core objective.
