Deadline- 06 January 2013
The UN Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN Women) is pleased to invite proposals for regional research project on women’s access to justice in plural legal systems in Southeast Asia, with a specific focus on the most disadvantaged groups of women.
UN Women supported a regional consultation of indigenous women on access to justice in the context of infrastructure and investment projects that affect their livelihoods. Most recently, UN Women has commissioned a Research Framework on Women’s Access to Justice in Plural Legal Systems of Southeast Asia that will be prepared in January 2013 to guide a regional research project on the same theme.
The successful project will support activities aimed at the following:
- to raise awareness of women in disadvantaged communities on the factors and barriers in the state and non state justice systems with respect to their access to justice in a participating country
- to raise awareness of legal professionals, community and religious leaders and other stakeholders involved in state and non-state justice systems in participating countries on mechanisms, norms, cultural elements and functioning of those systems in addressing violations of women’s rights
- to analyze the relationship of state and non state justice systems in addressing human rights violations and harmful experiences of women in participating countries
- to consolidate research findings into a regional knowledge product for use by governments and civil society
- to facilitate knowledge generation and sharing on improving women’s access to justice in Southeast Asia
